Hello! My name is Steve Holmes, and I’m a Domain-er-holic!

DomainerSpace began as an outlet for my passion/addiction for domain name investing, and will grow into a rich repository of useful tips, techniques, resources and industry observations.

In 1994, I “bought” my first domain name – if you can call it a purchase. You see, back then domains were FREE, and you were¬†expected to own only¬†one per person. There were many great domain names available, and the marketing company that my wife [Anne] and I owned needed the perfect domain name to launch our new web design service.

After days of research we selected PROMOTION.COM, sent off the order form and prepared for the eventual confirmation that we had successfully reserved our address of the future. Back then, you had to wait several weeks to complete the process of registering a domain name, and there was no guarantee that someone else hadn’t already sent in an order for the same domain a few days or weeks ahead of you. Fortunately, we were successful, and created our firm’s first web site.

After a few years, it became clear that this URL was more valuable to us by selling it as an asset, than it was for our small company’s web site. We sold it through Great Domains for six figures – just before the Internet bubble burst.

Needless to say, I was hooked! Since then, I’ve sold at least hundreds of domains [including LENDERS.COM and BROKERS.COM] in individual deals totalling hundreds of thousands of dollars. Of course, as a good domain-er-holic, I’ve reinvested much of these proceeds back into my portfolio. Today, I own more than 1,000 quality domain names.

Over the years, I’ve learned from many of my own personal successes and failures, but also from my never-ending quest to research and observe the domain name industry. Some years, this “hobby” business has far exceeded my earnings from my day job, and I see that trend continuing for the foreseeable future.

Many non-domainers may tell you that this ship has already sailed, and there are no more opportunities to make great profits by investing in domain names. It’s true that major investors, venture capital funds and huge corporations have already secured many of the most highly sought-after domains, but opportunities still exist to continually make profits that far exceed other traditional investments.

Today’s domainer just needs to be informed, and work smarter to select niche markets, locate opportunities and monetize their investments through ongoing income and/or sales.

DomainerSpace is here to identify and discuss many of these opportunities, while discussing the implications of new industry trends and happenings.
